How we work

Terms of Service

What to expect from Solar Advice

1. What Solar Advice agrees to do

Solar Advice will supply and install the system you've agreed to in writing. This includes a site and roof assessment, system design matched to your electricity usage and roof condition, supply of panels, inverter, racking and isolators, installation by an accredited electrician, grid connection paperwork and assistance, and monitoring app setup with handover training. We carry public liability and professional indemnity insurance and hold current SAA accreditation for our installation team.

All work is carried out to the Australian electrical standards (AS/NZS 3000) and relevant state building codes. Before work starts, we'll confirm the scope, timeline and final price in a signed quote or contract. If the scope changes during installation (for example, switchboard upgrade needed, asbestos roof requiring special handling, or underground cabling), we'll notify you in writing with a revised quote before proceeding.

2. What you agree to

You agree to provide safe access to your roof, switchboard and electrical panel during the agreed installation dates. You'll ensure the building and roof are structurally sound and suitable for solar, and that you own the building or have the owner's written permission. You're responsible for informing us of any known roof damage, asbestos, lead paint or heritage restrictions before work starts.

You agree to pay the invoice amount by the date specified. Payment terms are usually 50% deposit on signing the quote and 50% on completion and sign-off. For systems over $Solar Advice-defined thresholds, we may arrange a progress payment schedule; this will be detailed in your quote. You'll cooperate with paperwork for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) via the Clean Energy Regulator and provide information needed for grid connection with your distribution network operator.

3. Prices, deposits and payment

Prices in our quotes are in Australian dollars (AUD) and include GST unless stated otherwise. Solar Panel Installation ranges from $4,000–$9,500; Solar Battery Installation from $7,000–$15,000; Solar + Battery Packages from $12,000–$26,000; Commercial Solar from $25,000–$160,000; EV Charger Installation from $1,200–$3,200; Heat Pump Hot Water from $3,500–$6,000; and Off-Grid Solar Systems from $25,000–$75,000. These are market guidance ranges; your final price depends on system size (kW), panel and inverter brand, roof type and pitch, switchboard condition, and single or three-phase power availability.

A non-refundable deposit (usually 50%) secures your installation date. The balance is due on completion. We accept bank transfer, credit card and other methods detailed in your invoice. If you cancel more than 14 days before the installation start date, the deposit may be refunded less any design, assessment or material costs already incurred. Cancellations within 14 days forfeit the deposit unless we can reschedule the work within 30 days.

4. Small-scale Technology Certificates and rebates

Most solar installations are eligible for an upfront discount through Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) under the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), administered by the Clean Energy Regulator. The discount is calculated as system size (kW) × zone multiplier × 5-year deeming period × $38 per STC. You benefit from this discount off your invoice; we handle the STC paperwork with the CER on your behalf. Amounts depend on your postcode's solar zone and system size; confirm current rates with the CER before your quote is final.

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program (from 1 May 2026) offers rebates towards battery costs: approximately $252/kWh for the first 14 kWh, $151/kWh from 14–28 kWh, and $38/kWh from 28–50 kWh. Eligibility and final amounts are set by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water; your state may also offer additional schemes. We'll advise you of all current incentives before you sign, but you must confirm final rebate amounts with the relevant regulator before committing, as these change on set dates.

5. Warranties and guarantees

Solar Advice provides a workmanship warranty on labour for 2016 years from completion. This covers defects in installation, workmanship and materials we supply (panel mounts, inverter, racking, isolators, wiring and safety devices). Workmanship warranty does not cover damage from storms, vandalism, animal damage, incorrect maintenance by you, or modifications made by others after handover.

Panels, inverters and batteries carry separate manufacturer warranties (typically 10–25 years depending on brand and product). We'll provide you with warranty documents and registration details at handover. For warranty claims on panels or inverters, contact the manufacturer directly; we can assist you in submitting claims if needed. Battery warranties may be conditional on professional monitoring; we'll explain these terms at installation.

6. What's not covered by Solar Advice

We do not cover faults caused by damage after installation, incorrect use or maintenance by you, installation faults caused by third parties, damage from natural disasters (hail, lightning, flooding), failure to follow manufacturer maintenance schedules (e.g., battery management software updates), or costs arising from changes to your electricity network, tariff, or grid rules after we've completed work.

Solar Advice is not liable for indirect losses such as lost solar generation due to poor weather, grid outages beyond our control, or consequential financial losses. We are not responsible for any existing roof leaks, structural faults or pre-existing electrical faults in your switchboard or distribution network connection. If your roof or switchboard needs repair or upgrade before solar can be installed, we'll quote this separately and you'll arrange that work independently or through us at additional cost.

7. Maintenance and monitoring

We'll set up your monitoring app and explain how to check your system's daily output. For solar panels, we recommend professional cleaning every 6–12 months in dusty areas (e.g. semi-arid regions, near coasts or industrial zones). Cleaning costs typically range from $150–$450 for a residential system depending on panel count and roof access. Annual inspection (part of Solar Repairs & Maintenance, $180–$1,200 depending on scope) checks for loose wiring, corroded terminals, and inverter performance.

Batteries require firmware updates (provided free by the manufacturer and handled remotely) and inspection as part of your annual service. Heat pump hot water systems require annual servicing to maintain warranty and efficiency. We can arrange these services; alternately, any accredited solar electrician can perform them. Failure to service may void manufacturer warranties.

8. Grid connection and paperwork

Solar Advice prepares all paperwork needed for your distribution network operator (your state's electricity network company) to approve and connect your system. This includes design documentation, electrical drawings, and an application for permission to connect (PTC). You are responsible for providing accurate building and property details, and for informing us of any planned network upgrades in your area. Connection typically takes 5–20 business days after we submit the PTC.

You remain the account holder with your electricity retailer and distribution network. Your retailer may apply new tariffs or export rates; these are not Solar Advice's responsibility. If your network operator requires modifications to the installation (e.g. additional monitoring equipment), those costs are your responsibility unless they result from an error in our design or submission.

9. Changes to scope during installation

If we discover structural, electrical or safety issues during installation that were not visible in the initial assessment (e.g. asbestos, roof damage, undersized switchboard), we'll stop work and provide a written report and revised quote. You then decide whether to proceed with the upgrade, modify the system scope, or cancel. Work does not resume until you've approved changes in writing and any additional deposit is received.

If you request changes after work has started (e.g. extra panels, different inverter, additional battery), we'll provide a revised quote for the additional work. Timelines may extend and costs may change.

10. Cancellation and disputes

If you cancel more than 14 days before the installation start date, the deposit is refundable minus any design fees, material orders or assessment costs already incurred. Cancellations within 14 days of the start date forfeit the deposit. Cancellations after work has begun forfeit the deposit and you pay for all labour and materials supplied to date.

If a dispute arises, we'll try to resolve it in writing within 14 days. If we can't agree, either party may refer the matter to the relevant state energy ombudsman or seek independent dispute resolution. For complaints about service, contact [email protected] or 0485868633; we aim to respond within Same Day Response.

11. Your legal rights

These terms are subject to Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any statutory guarantee or right you have under the Australian Consumer Law or state legislation. If Solar Advice fails to supply goods or services with due care and skill, or they are not fit for a particular purpose you've made known, you have legal remedies available. For questions about your consumer rights, contact the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) or your state fair trading authority.

Solar Advice holds current SAA accreditation for solar installation; you can verify this via the Solar Accreditation Australia register. We are a NETCC Approved Seller for battery products where applicable. You're welcome to confirm these details before signing.

12. Insurance and liability

Solar Advice carries public liability insurance (minimum $20 million) and professional indemnity insurance. Certificates are available on request. This insurance covers our employees and work on your premises during installation. You should have building insurance that covers solar and battery equipment; check with your insurer before installation to confirm no endorsement is required.

Our liability is limited to the contract price plus reasonable costs to remedy defective work. We are not liable for any loss or damage to your property other than injury or death caused directly by our negligence.

13. Privacy and data

During installation, we collect your contact details, building address, electricity account number and consumption data (so we can size the system). We store this securely and use it only for system design, grid connection, STC registration with the Clean Energy Regulator, and warranty support. We do not sell or share your data with third parties except as required by law or to facilitate STC registration.

Your monitoring app transmits real-time generation and consumption data to the cloud server; check the app's privacy policy for details. You can turn off remote monitoring if you prefer local display only (though this may complicate troubleshooting).

14. Safety obligations during installation

Your roof and electrical areas must be kept clear of people and pets during installation. Work is carried out on live electrical circuits; only Solar Advice's accredited electricians and authorised personnel are permitted near the switchboard or inverter during installation. You must inform us immediately of any medical conditions, pregnancies, or safety concerns affecting your household.

After handover, you are responsible for keeping the area around the inverter, battery and electrical enclosures clear and accessible. Do not attempt repairs or modifications yourself; electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrician.

15. Changes to these terms

Solar Advice may update these terms from time to time. Changes apply to new quotes signed after the update date. Your existing contract remains under the terms you signed unless you both agree otherwise.
